Rain, rain, and more rain!

Today, I made my way to the site through the rain and spent most of the day indoors. In the search room, I continued to perform research on food in Scotland in an attempt to try and find enough information to help Evelyn. Later in the morning, I spoke with a volunteer at the site in order to gain a better perspective of his work in the search room. His work was to take documents and enter them into the catalogue in order to make research easier. This is now partially my task, as well.

In order to catalogue these pieces, I must read through them and gain a bit of understanding about the subject of the work. From here, I type up a brief description before determining a place for it to be kept. It is a bit difficult to wrap my head around the methods here at New Lanark because I am still in the mindset of the Evansville Museum, but it is interesting to gain different perspectives on the information.

Over the next four weeks, I will be working on a variety of tasks. I will be researching, assisting in the creation of an exhibit, cataloging, volunteering at an upcoming exhibit, and de-installing an exhibit. While I am a bit hesitant to be put with so many tasks, I hope that I can prove beneficial to New Lanark and assist in their everyday activities!

After work, I went to the grocery store in order to gather some items for dinner. Once I had checked out, I began the journey down the road to my hotel. The rain continued to pour and I found it difficult to handle my backpack, my umbrella, and my bag of groceries. Eventually, the rain let up enough and I put away the umbrella. As I neared the hotel, though, I found that a large puddle had developed next to the road. Fearful of a car throwing water on me, I sped up and briskly walked past. Cars sped by, driving around the puddle in order to try and spare me. At the last moment, as if in slow motion, a car sped by, running straight through the puddle. I saw the water rise up and over my head, falling across the right side of my body, thoroughly soaking my pants, jacket, and backpack.

I rushed in the hotel, throwing my paperwork and notebooks out of the backpack and briskly showering away the muddy road water. Needless to say, I was a bit distressed by such an action, but a hot shower helped to calm me down and I found the rest of the evening peaceful as I roamed about and ate my dinner.

Tomorrow is to be a sunny day and one can only hope for a brief relief from the rain.
