Today, I left New Lanark at 9 am and set out for Stirling, my biggest venture yet. After 2.5 hours of traveling, I was finally able to board a bus for the Wallace Monument. At the visitor's center, I purchases a ticket and began the hike up the hill. At a glance, it didn't seem like much of a feat, but the farther I got, the more I began to question my decision. Once I found the top, though, I was in awe at the beautiful view! I could see for miles!
Inside the monument, a tight spiral staircase with 250 steps, proved to be a bit sickening! Three levels were equipped with exhibition spaces while the top provided a breathtaking view. It was glorious, even amidst the rain, and I wouldn't have come down except that I knew others wanted to see, too.
After a quick lunch, I opted to walk the 2.5 miles to Stirling Castle...I soon regretted my decision. As I went, the sun began to appear and the temperature began to rise. Just as I neared the castle, I was met by a hill that seemed to never end. I took a wrong turn and ended up going down a sidewalk that closely resembled a frightening alley. By the time I reached the castle, I felt like I had neither the time nor the motivation to attempt seeing everything.
So, I made my way to the Golden Lion Inn, just 1/2 mile from the castle and checked in. After a hot shower, I went down to Cronie's Bar and Restaurant for a meal. I ordered a burger and was quite impressed with it!
Anyway, I can't believe that I've been away for 2 weeks now! It been quite the experience, and things seem to be slowly coming together. Let's see what the next 3.5 weeks have to offer!
