Today, I enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the hotel before walking back up the hill to Stirling Castle. Once inside, I was amazed by the sheer size of it, as well as the realization of just how high up I really was! You could see for miles in every direction (I could see the Wallace Monument and was proud of myself for having walked that far!). It was also impressive to think about the effort that went into getting such heavy materials up the hill just to build the castle!
In the afternoon, I took a bus out to the Battle of Bannockburn Visitor's Center. This site was the place where the King of England, Edward II, fought against the King of the Scots, Robert the Bruce. It was here that I got an interesting tour of the events and learned more about the style of warfare from this period, around 1314. I was even able to participate in a recreation of the battle...unfortunately, I am not good with battle tactics and my team lost...sorry Scotland!
Later, as I made my way to the bus station, it began to pour, so I ended up riding the bus back to the train station and making the venture back to New Lanark. I can't wait to see the sights of Glasgow next weekend!
