Sleep, Rest, and Relaxation!
Saturday morning, I took my time and enjoyed a full breakfast at the hotel before venturing out into Lanark to see some of the town and visit the local museum. At the museum I learned a great deal about the last 250 years in Lanark. The majority of the exhibit displayed articles from the world wars, as well as from the education system. In the museum there was a computer designed to allow you to read specific informations bout the town's history including information on transportation, famous inhabitants, and government.
Once I had spent a sufficient amount of time at the museum, I continued my wall around Lanark. I stopped by a few stores and found some cute postcards. I'm not really a big shopper, so I didn't get much because I don't really need anything and it's only been a week...I have plenty of time for that.
At lunch, I finally decided to try some fish and chips, which were quite tasty. 😊
That evening, I went back out to get some good shots of the Lanark countryside and to enjoy a nice snack by the lake.
On Sunday, I decided to venture out of Lanark in order to visit the Lowparks Museum in Hamilton. After a bit of a wait, I finally was able to board a bus, but I found the ride to be a bit less than enjoyable. While in Ireland last year, I found that I had a bit of a tendency to grow queasy during our long journeys. Scotland, it seems, is no different. The driver, so accustomed to the curves and hills, drove a bit faster than I expected, causing me to sway too and fro in my seat. During the 30 minute bus ride, I tried my best to stay upright and keep my breakfast from making a reappearance.
Once I was off of the bus, I regained my composure and began making my way through the streets to the Lowparks Museum. First on the agenda was a quite lunch at the museum cafe. After this, I began making my way through the museum. One of the most interesting things that they had on exhibit, in my opinion, was a variety of lace bobbins. It was quite interesting to see the intricate bobbins all laid out and I couldn't imagine the amount of dedication it must have taken to make a simple line of lace!
While the museum had a number of splendid exhibitions, I grew a bit confused by the layout. It was not very clear as to where you were to go and I was almost ready to leave when I discovered that there was a whole section that I had failed to observe! All in all, though, the museum was quite nice and provided a number of details about the war effort and daily life in Lanarkshire from the early 18th century on.
In the evening, after I had finally made my way back to Lanark, I took a stroll down some new roads and found some great scenery to stop and enjoy. I somehow managed to make it back to the hotel before a host of rain showers made an appearance!
My first weekend in Scotland was quite enjoyable and I got to see a bit more of the countryside with its rolling hills and beautiful landscapes. I can't wait to venture further away in the upcoming weekends! Hopefully I will make it to Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Sterling before it's all through!
