All in a Day's Work

Today, I began by struggling to work my shower. Sad, I know, but I was moved into a different room last night and found that my shower was not the same. Needless to say, I finally got it off after a good 10 minute struggle, but I apologize for the misuse of water. =(
Anyway, at New Lanark, I read a host of materials that described the collections management at the site, as well as throughout Scotland. At 10:30, I got called to go manage the Robert Owen House, which I knew a little about, but was still nervous to be on my own. The house was occupied by Robert Owen between 1800 and 1808, but has since been occupied by a number of mill managers, as well as a few families. Today, it has been restored to what it might have looked like during Owen's lifetime. There are recreations of period appropriate furniture, as well as a few artifacts from Owen's life.
For the first 1.5 hours at the house, everything was relatively quiet. I only had a couple of visitors, so I spent a great deal of time alone...just me and the creepy mannequins...=/
After lunch, I walked around on my own again, admiring the buildings while taking the time to actually appreciate the scenery. It is so peacefult here along the banks of the River Clyde that it is sometimes difficult to imagine men, women and children working long hard hours in the mills. (Sometimes I struggle to simply make it through an 8 hour work day!)
This evening, I ventured up to the grocery store again and bought a large box of cereal. Without a fridge, my options are quite limited. For dinner, I had a meat and potato pie, which had an odd texture, but a decent flavor. Tomorrow night, I will likely venture back out for dinner, but it's likely to rain all evening.
